About Castle Rock Colorado
Sitting in the East Plum Creek valley, the town of Castle Rock is a rapidly growing community about 35 miles south of the Denver metro area. It is located on both sides of I-25, about 15 minutes drive time south of the Denver Tech Center.
Established in the middle 1800s, Castle Rock was originally just a final stage stop on the road to Denver and points west. It developed primarily as the center of an active farming and ranching community, although local merchants also did a booming business selling mining tools and supplies to the miners headed west into the Rocky Mountains. Rock quarries and dairy product processing and distribution were also important businesses in its early years. Today, it is the county seat of Douglas County, and is a very popular community with Denver area commuters, especially those working in the DTC and other south metro areas.

Castle Rock Local Government
The Town of Castle Rock is the county seat of Douglas County Colorado. Some properties that have Castle Rock mailing addresses may be in unincorporated Douglas County, and not within the Town of Castle Rock.
Castle Rock Colorado Schools
The schools in Castle Rock are part of the Douglas County School District. The Douglas County schools have consistently been ranked among the top schools in Colorado. Castle Rock currently has one high school (plus one under construction), two middle schools, and five elementary schools. Castle Rock area schools also serve students of Louviers, Sedalia, Castle Pines, and Larkspur.

A large factory outlet stores mall is one of its main retail attractions. Otherwise, Castle Rock is primarily a southern residential and county government town, with few key businesses of any size.

Castle Rock straddles I-25, which provides convenient access to the Denver Tech Center area in about 15 minutes in good weather, and about a 40-45 minute commute to downtown Denver.
Recreation and Fun Stuff in Castle Rock
Castle Rock has many well-maintained community parks and open areas, most of which are part of the extensive Douglas County Colorado open space and trails system, or the Colorado State Parks system. Castlewood Canyon State Park is just east of Parker and south of Franktown. Chatfield State Park and Reservoir and Roxborough State Park are both just north and west of Castle Rock, via US-85.
Other Castle Rock Points of Interest
Of course, one of the main points of local interest is the prominent rock formation that Castle Rock is named after, located just east of the downtown area.
The old Denver and Rio Grande Railway depot building on Elbert Street houses the Castle Rock Historical Museum, where visitors can see history of how Castle Rock has grown and changed over the years. Other historic local homes and businesses are located in and around downtown Parker, and can be identified by plaques at the front of each property.
